`Maths is not just for School: Maths is for life' is the Mathematics Department's motto here at Higham Lane School. Your son or daughter will be taught by well-qualified, caring, enthusiastic and dedicated staff, committed to helping all students achieve their potential.
The Mathematics Department has nine dedicated teaching rooms, including an ICT suite, well stocked with a wide range of text books, computer projectors and practical equipment.
At Key Stage 3, students' mathematical skills and knowledge are developed in preparation for the exams at the end of Year 8. Dynamic, multi-part lessons engage all learners with a range of learning styles catered for. The use of ICT plays a major part in teaching and learning within the department, along with practical Mathematics activities.
At Key Stage 4, the Department has enjoyed outstanding results in recent years with 100% of our students achieving A*-C for their Statistics GCSE in 2017, 80% 4+ in GCSE Mathematics and 61% 5+ in GCSE Mathematics. A number of our students also successfully completed an AS standard Mathematics qualification in Year 11, with 45% achieving A*/A.
A wide range of extra-curricular activities are offered by the Department, including a MyMaths club in MA1, revision classes aimed at GCSE students and National Mathematics Challenge Competitions.
The Mathematics Department makes extensive use of the website www.mymaths.co.uk for homework, revision and independent learning. There is a MyMaths club one lunchtime a week for pupils to use the site and get help with all types of homework.
